Healthy Start

The NHS Healthy Start scheme gives families who have low-income financial support to buy fruit, vegetables, pulses, and milk. Around 2,400 people in Islington qualify for these payments, but they need to apply to receive them. In Islington, we have increased the number of people signed up to 75% - which is a great achievement. This means that 25% of people who qualify are still not signed up, and we need help reaching them. We need to make sure all our conversations about Healthy Start are frequent, accurate, and supportive.

There are a number of resources available:

  • New 15-minute webinar for professionals: Available to watch anytime, this online training gives an overview of what the NHS Healthy Start scheme is in Islington. The training should be watched by any professional who interacts with parents/carers with young children and can signpost them to Healthy Start. Watch the online training now.

  • Free resources available in different languages: NHSBSA have developed several resources in different languages, including flyers, animations, and digital screens. These resources are free to download here.

  • Healthy Start Information Sessions – expressions of interest: Manor Gardens are delivering both virtual and in-person awareness sessions on Healthy Start in the new year. Please contact Kelly at kelly@manorgardencentre.org to express your interest and find out more.

  • Other Islington training resources for professionals: See here for a factsheet about Healthy Start for frontline professionals.
